Introduction

Chah-GAH-Cho, the first property acquired by the McKinleyville Land Trust, is a 9.5-acre parcel located adjacent to the Mill Creek Shopping Center in McKinleyville. Many local residents are unaware that this property has one of the best views in the area of the Mad River as it winds through the beautiful rural farmlands of Arcata Bottom. The Board is interested in improving access to this property both for educational and recreational purposes. In the spring and fall, members of the Humboldt State University Natural Resources Club and other local volunteers help to make this possible with trash removal and blackberry vine busting. Above is a draft planning map for future improvements to the site. We are currently looking for funding to implement our plans for habitat restoration and recreation improvement.
